Infections due to parasitic worms (helminthoses) rank among the most frequent human illnesses. They are usually chronic infections which, if not treated with specific chemotherapy, may develop for many years or even decades. An ill person is usually a source of infection which can be transferred orally by contaminated food and water, cutaneously through normal skin (schistosomiases, ancylostomiases), or through being bitten by a specific host (filariases). Trichinelosis, toxocarosis and hydatidosis rank among zoonoses. The presented article shows an overview of treatment options of helminthoses prevalent in our country. Those of imported infections, which can be encountered in our country, are included as well. Benzoimidazoles are used for treatment of intestinal nematodoses, niclosamide and praziquantel are the treatment of choice in taenioses, schistosomiases and other trematodoses are treated with praziquantel, filariases with diethylcarbamazine and ivermectin. Light forms of infections in tissue helminthoses are usually not treated, in hydatidosis and cysticercosis a combination of surgical treatment and antihelmintics (albendazole, praziquantel) is used.

Keywords: Key words: helmintic infections, therapy, albendazole, mebendazole, diethylcarbamazine.
