Drug-induced psychotic disorder is related to symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions directly related to drug intake. They represent complications of patients' health and worsen their prognoses. The most frequently reported manifestations are psychoses with persecutory delusions and auditory hallucinations induced by drugs: corticosteroids, antiparkinsonian drugs, antimicrobials, analgesics, and drugs with anticholinergic effects. Treatment involves withdrawal of the suspected causative drug, in most cases, the condition is reversible. If discontinuation of this drug is not possible, administration of antipsychotics (mostly atypical) is appropriate, with careful consideration of risk factors, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions included. The aim of this article is to summarize the most common causes of drug induced psychotic states, their possible mechanism of origin, risk factors and possible options for their treatment.
