Lipid-lowering agents rank among the most widely used medications. Numerous studies have demonstrated their significant benefit in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Adverse effects in the form of muscular affections have been well described. Recently observations have been made which suggest the possible risk of peripheral neuropathy in patients treated for a long term with lipid-lowering drugs. The aim of this article is to bring these effects to our attention and point to possible prevention through sensible pharmacotherapy.
