Emollients are drugs involved in the group of dermalologics, used for the local application in the case of dry skin, xerodermia and the
cornification failure. The aim of this study was to assess the use of emolients analyzing the dispensation data in the pharmacies, and by
means of questionaires sent to 75 senior residental homes (SRH) located in different parts of the CR. The study was carried out between
January 2009 and Juni 2010.
As the result of the study we can conclude, that the most frequently dispensed drug in the pharmacies was Excipial U lipolotio (on medical
prescription and as the over the counter drug as well). It was the drug most frequently asked from the inhabitants of the SRH which
was bought for them from theier budgets (in 36 % of the residential homes). The authorized emollients are sporadicaly used in such
institutions. The non- authorized products (dermocosmetics) are preferes there. The study was focused on the products of the trade
mark Menalind. The most widely used products are identified: Menalind Professional Clearing Foam 400 ml (in 68 % of SRH), Menalind
Professional Skin Protecting Cream 200 ml (in 60 % of SRH) and Menalind Professional Oily Spray 200 ml (38 % of SRH).
