Článok rozoberá stále aktuálnu problematiku glaukómu a predstavuje nový farmakoterapeutický prístup v jeho liečbe. Popri klasickej liečbe betablokátormi, parasympatomimetikami a inhibítormi karboanhydrázy sa v nej stále častejšie začínajú uplatňovať nové, moderné liečivá zo skupiny analógov prostaglandínov. V súčasnosti máme pre liečbu glaukómu už aj na Slovensku dostupných niekoľko analógov prostaglandínu: latanoprost, bimatoprost a travoprost.

PROSTAGLANDIN ANALOGUES IN THE TREATMENT OF GLAUCOMA

The goal of this article is to discuss the problematic of glaucoma and to introduce new pharmacological treatment of glaucoma. The initial drug treatment involves topical cholinergic agonists, beta blockers or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. One of the most recent contributions to the theapeutic arsenal available for the treatment of glaucoma is a new class of drugs called prostaglandin analogues. Several agents in this class are now available in Slovakia: latanoprost, bimatoprost and travoprost.
