Vojtěch Hanulík, Miroslava Htoutou Sedláková, Jana Petrželová, Milan Kolář

Klin Farmakol Farm. 2010;24(4):184-186

Fluoroquinolones are purely synthetic agents with antibacterial effects. For their excellent properties and a broad spectrum of activity, they are well established in the treatment of many bacterial diseases. Fluoroquinolones are commonly used in both human and veterinary medicine. However, their application is associated with potential development and spread of bacterial resistance, impairing the activity of these excellent agents.

Reliability of computer programs providing support for electronic prescribing of drug interactions

Michal Prokeš, Josef Suchopár

Klin Farmakol Farm. 2010;24(4):190-196

Computer programs offering electronic prescription support (EPP) are in developed countries widely dispersed, but they are not exploited in an optimal way routinely. In this paper elaborated on the basis of foreign studies we describe the rate of the change of physicians ´s prescribing habbits evoked by EPP programs on the field of potential drug interactions (PLI) and also is shown how physicians percieve such programs. Physicians consider these programs being helpfull but are worried about credibility of information provided by these programs and consider some warnings issued by these programs as irrelevant and bothering. In the second part...

Prevention and treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease

František Švára

Klin Farmakol Farm. 2010;24(4):214-219

The current approach to secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in chronic kidney disease is much broader than in the past. The disorder is now considered to be a part of a multisystem disease which implies not only deviations in the laboratory markers of bone metabolism, but also the formation of extraosseous (predominantly vascular) calcifications and abnormalities in bone volume, mineralization and turnover. This comprehensive view of the issue was the reason why a new term has been introduced: Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). Based on the results of large mortality studies, current treatment for this disorder is...
